Bundaberg. Named after local indigenous Kabi & Gurang Gurang (goo-rang goo-rang) people’s word & German suffix combination “ Bunda “ Aboriginal word meaning ’Denoting Important Man’ and the German suffix ‘Berg’ indicating town.

First settled in 1868 within the timber industry on the banks of the Burnett River. Soon after surveying in 1870 experimental sugar cane in the district lead to very successful sugar industry.
1888 surplus Molasses bye processes of sugarcane, gave both to the famous Bundaberg Rum Distillery.
1891 The Burnett Rail bridge linking north coast railway to Brisbane.
1900 Heritage listed Burnett River Traffic Bridge.

Combined population of 74’000 people situated 385km north of Brisbane & 15km inland. Bundaberg sits on the banks of the Burnett River inwhich is famously known for its fertile soils growing Commercial Sugar, fruit and vegetables all throughout the district, most notably tomatoes, zucchinis, capsicums, legumes and watermelons in abundant quantities.

With a subtropical weather & meany beautiful parks & Botanical Gardens, Oldest high school in Queensland, Jabiru Aircraft Company, Australian sugarcane Railway, Naturally Brewed Drinks, Rum Distillery, Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef & proximity to Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave Islands, world famous Mon Repos turtle rookery & 20km of golden sand beaches in which very popular with local’s & many tourists.

Bundaberg is also famously hometown of meany famous people likes of pioneer aviator Bert Hinkler, singer Gladys Moncrieff, writer Vance Palmer, broadcaster, singer/songwriter Burt Everett, Australian Cricketer Don Tallon, rugby league legend Mal Meninga & 2004 Queenslander of the Year Chris Sarra and of course myself 😁

We were welcomed with smiles and laughs the moment the doors opened just up visiting the area and looking for things to do places to see and places to stay the staff were very helpful highly recomend dropping in and saying hi.

It was that friendly welcome that made the decision much easier to stay and explore what this town has to offer

I was traveling around Bunderberg and got some nice hints for exploring the area and booked a Mon Repos tour even when it was booked out.

I was looking at 3 different dates to take my family on the Mon Repos turtle experience. The website booked and charged me for all of them, so I called to cancel two.
As we were on our way to Bundy, I called to confirm our booking. Sure enough, there had been a mix up and our planned night had been booked out.
I was assisted by an exceptionally helpful girl named Allanah, who contacted various people, despite it being to weekend, and was eventually able to rebook us for the following evening.
Without the amazing customer service that I was provided, my kids would have been in tears and our special holiday weekend would have been a disaster. I think the website for bookings might need a little work though.
