This has been the most disappointing and stressful real estate experience we've ever had. I would give 0/5 if I could!

In March 2025, we applied for a home at 113 Aldersyde Meander, Baldivis, and at 2:41 PM, we received both an email and an SMS stating that our application had been approved. We were overjoyed—especially as a growing family with two young children and another baby due in just 10 weeks.

After speaking with the office, we even managed to view the home that same day with approval from the cleaner’s manager. We loved it and made the decision to cancel all other property viewings for the week.

The next morning, we contacted the office to move forward with signing the lease. At first, everything seemed fine—until a few hours later when we were suddenly told that the approval was “sent in error.” We received no prior call or email to explain this, and when we spoke to a staff member named Faith, we were met with zero empathy or accountability—just a cold and abrupt explanation. No apology, no assistance, and no attempt to make things right.

We were devastated, and the emotional toll was significant.

We eventually spoke to Caroline, who was the only one to show compassion and professionalism. She assured us the stage manager, Ian Carter, would get in touch. We followed up three weeks later, and again were told Ian would call. It’s now July, and we still haven’t heard anything back.

This entire ordeal has caused massive stress for our family, and the lack of communication and accountability from the agency is simply unacceptable. We sincerely hope no one else has to go through what we did.

​Our 18-month rental experience with Century 21 Rockingham began on a positive note. The initial process was efficient, allowing us to move in with our indoor cat without hassle. Most maintenance issues were promptly addressed, except for a recurring dishwasher problem.​

Midway through our tenancy, we encountered a significant water leak, resulting in a water bill exceeding $700. Although we managed to have this reduced, it still more than doubled our usual monthly payment. Even after the leak was fixed, our water bills remained higher than normal.​

We also observed that property inspections occurred more frequently than the standard quarterly schedule, sometimes with less than three months between them. During these inspections, the property manager documented minor details, such as fingerprints on light switches and slight dust accumulation, which felt excessive.​

Upon deciding to purchase a nearby home and end our lease six months early, we maintained the property meticulously and facilitated multiple open homes for potential tenants. However, we were informed that the new lease wouldn't be finalized unless we used Century 21's recommended contractors for cleaning, pest treatment, carpet cleaning, gardening, and painting, totaling $1,650. Notably, the cleaner did provide excellent service.​

Additionally, we were initially held responsible for pre-existing cupboard damage, which we disproved using our entry photographs. This experience underscores the importance of thoroughly documenting the property's condition at move-in to avoid unjust claims.​

Recommendations for Future Renters:

Understand Bond Implications: Be aware that the pet bond may cover more than standard pest treatment. Additional requirements, like thorough cleaning to remove all pet traces, can lead to significant expenses.​

Clarify Service Requirements: Discuss with the property manager whether you can choose your own service providers for end-of-lease obligations. Some agencies may insist on their preferred contractors, leading to higher costs.​

Document Property Condition: Keep detailed records, including photos, of the property's condition at move-in and move-out. This documentation can be crucial if disputes arise over alleged damages.​

While we respected the property manager's duty to protect the homeowner's interests, we felt our role as clients was overlooked once we expressed our intention to break the lease, leading to interactions that made us feel more like an inconvenience than valued tenants.​

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING!!
I’ve never encountered such poor service from a real estate agency!! They will unfairly charge you for cleaning no matter what. Despite hiring a professional cleaner and ensuring the property was cleaned TWICE, they sent me another bill for cleaning!!“Kira Smith” in particular, was the worse to deal with. Her rude and dismissive attitude left me no choice but to file a formal complaint. Strongly avoid them if you don’t want a nightmare.

Bad rental experiences with this place since I moved in, House maintenance was not their priority and when it came time for fixes to be provided the budget given to contractors was to small for them to complete the job properly, They enjoy blaming tenants for sun faded carpet and lino aswell as irrigation that never worked, I have had a piece of wall that had moisture damage from the other side of the shower that still hasn't been fixed 18 months after moving in, that I will no doubt be forced to pay for. I'd strongly advise future tenants to think about renting trough theese people and to gather as much evidence as possible when complaining about maintenance, and I advise future owners looking to rent their property out to consider a different realestate as they dont care about your property they just need it Livable and only car about the money.

Edit: Shortly after posting this review I was threatened with "If you do not remove your review we will not give you a good referral for your next rental" 🤣

The staff at Century 21 boardwalk Rockingham are excellent, they give plenty of notice before inspections, the staff are friendly and professional, they go above and beyond when owners sell and make sure you still have a rental to call home. The staff are very considerate and understanding, I'd recommend Century 21 to anyone looking to rent. Niki is the best
