Unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience with Claxon. There is so much I could detail, however I'll simply include my email to Claxon below when confirming my decision to leave which was never replied to (very fitting as it's quite a common practice with Claxon).

We aligned really well with Damian in our initial calls prior to joining Claxon. However unfortunately we barely experienced any of the promises in which we were sold. Damian was very hands on selling their offering to us prior to joining but the moment we signed the dotted line and joined the agency, he was no longer involved on our account.

Unfortunately Claxon’s management of our ads did not achieve the forecasts in which we were provided prior to signing up (for December and January we were told we would spend $20K @ a ROAS of 2.5, totalling $50K per month, therefore $100K). Instead we experienced the lowest ROAS we ever have and when you combine that with the high monthly management fee, working with Claxon has unfortunately drained our bank account incredibly quickly.

Whilst I understand that results aren’t guaranteed, when it can be quite clear as to why we are experiencing such low ROAS (minimal optimisations being made due to lack of time spent working in our account), a complete lack of reporting (we were promised ‘world class’ weekly reporting and no matter how many times we asked for reporting we just weren’t provided, and a complete lack of planning (I lost count on the number of times we asked for a Q3 plan, a plan which would indicate the channels in which we would utilise and still never received). To continually request looking into Google or Pinterest and never hear back on this. We did make a little bit of progress when I was told Claxon had scheduled in a call with Pinterest on Jan 19 however I never heard back on how this went and can only assume this call never actually occurred.

These are just a few main examples of how it is evident Claxon generated such a low ROAS for us which eventuated in our bank account almost being completely drained as not only were we receiving a very low return on our ad spend, we had to spend so much in monthly management fees ($21K when you also account for the branding exercise before launching which was not used in our account at all so this seems very over-priced). Again while I understand results aren't guaranteed, I still have the right to expect that when results are absolutely nowhere near the targets they estimated that our account would be somewhat prioritised.

Luckily we have another business in which we can fall back on, but I understand this may not be the case for other clients. I do feel that as we have our other business to fall back on, perhaps we are not thinking about how much money we wasted as a result of our partnership with Claxon ($21K just on management fees alone) and perhaps I try to not think about it too much as a bit of a coping mechanism however I would hate to think other small businesses are having the same experience as this has caused many sleepless nights. I did so much research from listening to every Digital Growth Podcast (the number of things Brett mentions gets done for their clients to which we have experienced zero of is quite concerning) to reading up on every Google and Facebook review I could find on Claxon agency, and am therefore very disappointed on the level of service we unfortunately experienced.

Thankfully since leaving the agency and going back to managing the ads ourselves, our ROAS has gone back up and we're slowly but surely making back the over $20K wasted through Claxon, this will still take a long time for us to recover and would very much encourage any small business owner to think carefully about their overpromises.
