The gallery is more dedicated to post modernism. Well laid out with activities for artists and children. The cafe is visited by the Galleries frequent patrons. Melbourne & Sydney are more to the taste of people who are looking at more traditional portraits.

What is good about the NPG is there is always a fascinating exhibition or two along with a rotating collection of portraits of national significance.

Joan Ross is an artist of the highest calibre. You don't need to support her viewpoint to respect her art.

The exhibition by Carol Jerrems has been lovingly curated and was worth the drive to Canberra from Melbourne just to see it.

A beautiful immersive gallery, probably hands down my favorite gallery in Canberra. Came here with low expectations and was surprised with myself how I can get lost in the portraits, especially Joan Ross’s section, such beautiful art pieces. A must-visit when you’re in Canberra!
There’s ample underground parking space. There’s a bridge connecting to the National Art Gallery as well, you can spend the whole day in this area.
The special part is that there’s a school holiday summer program, where there’s an arts and crafts section for children. We love it!

This must be the most welcoming,friendly,helpful museum on the planet! Joan Ross exhibit is quite provocative and engaging. Their app works like a charm to give info on the first portraits. Well worth a visit!.

Very nice art gallery with creative and modern paintings and historical paintings and portraits. I didn’t see the ticketed show but I enjoyed looking around the free entry section. There was many guards there, which is a little intimidating.

I’ve always enjoyed my time here. There’s a lot on offer for free, for example, the general collection and the Joan Ross special show. The Joan Ross exhibition was fantastic. Easy to understand - even for kids - and good statements on the walls. High visual impact too. I also saw lots of families using the space for kids, appreciated the supplied drawing materials for use in the courtyard, enjoyed my $6 scone with jam and cream, and paged through several books at the gift shop. Had a great morning.

A beautiful museum of portraiture. There are painting and photos and everything in between. Many of the subjects are famous Australians and it is really well worth a visit. You can do this in less than a hour as the exhibition is not so vast. It’s just a short stroll from the NGA so easy to combine both museums into a single visit

Although a short time in the gallery, I thoroughly enjoyed looking and admired their collection. Great collection, I must say! Astounding and jaw-dropping portraits. Just so many remarkable artists, am impressed.
